Signs of Nothing

“The monumental roadside signs that alert us to the presence of restaurants, motels, stores and gas stations are an essential part of the American psyche. These giant signs, often illuminated by neon and standing upwards of forty feet tall, are the secular architecture of the post-war collective unconscious, their haloed glow a replacement for the religious iconography and public statues. - Dr. Alex Gordon

“His crisp black and white images, simple and striking, are stripped of color as well as content, as if mourning the lost dreams of the signs’ heyday.”
